- Best Los Angeles Dog Friendly Hikes, Trails, Beaches and Parks
Hey there, dog parents! Over the years, I have sniffed out some of the best trails and parks across Los Angeles—places where you can escape the noise, soak up stunning views and enjoy quality time with your pup. Each of these spots has been personally sniffed out by me, ensuring they’re perfect for dogs of all shapes, sizes, and energy levels! Ready to shake up your walking routine? Leash up and follow my lead! Top Dog Friendly Hikes, Trails, Beaches and Parks in Los Angeles 2025 Runyon Canyon – Mulholland Entrance Address : 7317 Mulholland Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90046 Difficulty: Moderate Length: 3.3 miles (loop) Runyon Canyon is a classic LA trail and remains my favorite, primarily because of their off-leash hiking area. We prefer the Mulholland entrance over the Fuller Ave since it has more downhill, which makes it easier for me and the human. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy open trails and stunning views of Griffith Park and the Hollywood Sign. There are also several water stations on the trail and benches where you can sit, rest, and soak in the view. Griffith Observatory – West Observatory Trail Loop Address : 2800 E Observatory Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90027 Difficulty: Moderate Length: 2.1 miles (loop) This loop offers iconic views of LA and the Griffith Observatory while giving you and your pup space to roam. I recommend visiting on a weekday to avoid the crowd but if your schedule only allows weekends, try to go early mornings or late afternoons. While pups are not allowed on the Observatory, the flat grassy area in front of it is perfect for a quick snack break or a photo session. Elysian Park's Branch Manager Elysian Park – West Trail Address: 1025 Elysian Park Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90012 Difficulty: Easy Length: 2.3 miles (loop) Elysian Park is one of LA’s oldest parks, offering a relaxing escape just minutes from downtown. Certain areas allow off-leash exploration but be cautious if hiking earlier or later in the day, as coyotes love to hang out just a few feet from the trails. The views of DTLA's skyline make it worth the visit, especially on a clear sunny day (which is basically every day). Bring some snacks and enjoy a relaxing morning at one of the picnic sites after your hike. L-R : @therealhousepupsofsandiego , Me, @clementine_the_mini_schnauzer , @lalaland_lucy , @simonsaysschnauzer and our hike leader @jack_in_jacktopia Rancho Palos Verdes - Point Vicente to Pelican Grove Address: 31550 Palos Verdes Dr W, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 Difficulty: Easy Length: 1.8 miles (out and back) This seaside trail offers cliffside views and the chance to spot sea lions frolicking in the waves. We saw two on the rocks last time, so make sure you check them out. This is not a busy trail and I especially love exploring in the spring when the trail is lined with blooming wildflowers. Extend your hike to Nelson’s at Terranea Resort for a relaxing meal with panoramic ocean vistas. It’s the perfect way to end a scenic walk with your pup. Eaton Canyon - Altadena (Temporarily Closed) Address: 1 750 N Altadena Dr, Pasadena, CA 91107 Difficulty: Easy Length: 3.5 miles (out and back) Eaton Canyon’s winter charm is hard to beat, especially if you want to see the waterfalls at their best. This hike is easy and enjoyable, with fewer crowds during the cooler months. Bring a light jacket and arrive early to snag a parking spot. If you find going up the rocks closer to the waterfall challenging, here’s the good news. There’s plenty of water on the stream which you and your pup can enjoy walking along without going up to the waterfalls. There are multiple trails and trailheads in this area but I always love starting at the Visitor's Center to the waterfalls. Rosie’s Dog Beach Address : 5000 E Ocean Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90803 Difficulty: Easy Length: Open space Rosie’s Dog Beach is perfect for pups who love a sandy adventure. While places like Venice Beach, Santa Monica Pier and Malibu are considered "dog-friendly", those places will only allow pets on the boardwalk. You are not allowed to walk your pup on the sand or bring them into the water. Rosie's is truly a dog-friendly beach with a designated area where you can let your pup run free, chase tennis balls, and if they are adventurous enough, dive into the waves. It can get very busy in the summer but going there in spring and winter feels like having your own dog beach. Just don’t forget the towels for the ride home. Los Angeles State Historic Park Address : 1245 N Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90012 Difficulty: Easy Length: 1.2 miles (loop) Located near Chinatown and Elysian park, this spot offers 32 acres of flat, paw-friendly path with sweeping views of the Downtown LA skyline. I love the mix of urban charm and open space here. It’s perfect for a relaxed stroll with plenty of sniff spots and bonus points if you hit golden hour when the sun makes everything look extra dreamy. There’s also a casual dining spot, Cargo Shack, by the entrance that serves delicious burgers, hotdogs, and drinks, and the best part is that it’s pet-friendly. This park is one of the cleanest and most well-maintained parks in the LA area, so this is also the perfect place to bring your picnic mat and enjoy people-watching (this is what I love doing at parks) or have some snacks while you hang out with friends. On Thursdays, they have LA River Farmers' Market which is also dog-friendly and offers a great selection of fresh produce and some of the tastiest pastries and cookies. Please note, that this is a dog-friendly park and not a dog park so keep your pups on a leash and always carry a poop bag with you. Another thing to take note of, this park is open from 8:00 am - sunset and is closed to the public after hours. Echo Park Lake Address : 751 Echo Park Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90026 Difficulty: Easy Length: 1 mile (loop) Echo Park Lake is a simple yet charming spot for a leisurely stroll. Take in the palm-lined paths, the fantastic water view with a fountain in the middle, and the occasional duck parade. There are plenty of food vendors in the park so make sure you bring some cash. If you’re feeling adventurous, rent one of the swan boats and pedal in the lake. It is pet-friendly, but make sure your pup can be trusted and not jump off in an attempt to chase the wildlife. Speaking of which, be careful of the geese. Do not approach or let your pup playfully chase them. Unless you want a gaggle of them attacking you. South Coast Botanic Garden – Dog Walking Days Address : 26300 Crenshaw Blvd, Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA 90274 Last Sunday of Every Month Difficulty: Easy Length: 2 miles (varies) A hidden oasis, South Coast Botanic Garden offers lush greenery and beautiful trails that welcome pups on designated dog-walking days every last Sunday of the month. The tranquil surroundings are perfect for a peaceful outing, and the variety of trails lets you explore without ever feeling rushed. Some areas are off-limits, such as the Koi pond and rose garden, but aside from that, there’s plenty to explore. There are water stations all throughout the garden, and you can bring food for a lovely picnic. They also offer a class called Class, Sit & Stay A While: Basic Tips to Socialize Your Pet regularly and lots of other seasonal events but my personal favorite is their Barktoberfest. Yes, pups showed up in dirndls and l ederhosens and as you can see above, there's also a giant squirrel who matched my outfit. La Brea Tar Pits and LACMA Address : 5801 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036 Difficulty: Easy Length: 1–2 miles Walk among fossils and historic statues while your pup explores the paths and grassy areas. The mammoths in tar pits make for a really cool backdrop. The lawn also connects to LACMA, where you can explore more sculptures, grab food, enjoy live entertainment, and take photos at the world-famous Urban Lights. When exploring the tar pits, keep curious noses away from the bubbling tar, and make sure your leashes are tight in case your pup spots the bunnies. There's a burger spot across the street called The Counter that offers customizable gourmet burgers and a pet-friendly patio. Santa Monica Pier and Palisades Park Address : 2 00 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA 90401 Difficulty: Easy Length: 2–3 miles Stroll along the iconic Santa Monica Pier before heading up to Palisades Park for panoramic ocean views. The pier gets very crowded, especially on the weekends, so we prefer the open space at the park. Also, because, well, there are hundreds of squirrels there. Another great alternative is walking on the boardwalk or renting a dog-friendly bike. Just note that pups are not allowed on the sand. Korean Friendship Bell & Wilder’s Addition Park Address : 3601 S Gaffey St, San Pedro, CA 90731 Difficulty: Easy Length: 1–2 miles With wide-open grass, sweeping ocean views, and the stunning Korean Friendship Bell, this is a peaceful escape for both pups and humans. If you like flying kites or enjoy watching them, this is one of our favorite spots. Nearby, Wilder’s Addition Park offers coastal walking trails where you might spot sea lions basking on the rocks and very friendly squirrels begging for food from all the picnic-goers. Feeling more adventurous? Go down the staircase, let your pup enjoy the beach, and check out the tide pools. Rocks can be slippery and primarily covered in algae, so be extra careful. Hiking Tips for You and Your Dog Plan Ahead: Mornings and late afternoons are ideal for cooler temperatures and avoiding crowds. Pack the Essentials: Always bring water, poop bags, and a few treats for your pup (and maybe a snack for you!). Leave No Trace: Stick to the trails, clean up after your pup, and keep them from marking signage or structures. Stay Comfortable: Whether it’s a cozy sweater for colder days or sunscreen for sunny strolls, make sure you and your pup are ready for the weather. And there you have it—my tried-and-true guide to the best dog-friendly hikes, trails, beaches and parks in Los Angeles. Whether you’re out for a casual stroll or an adventure-packed hike, these spots offer the perfect backdrop for making memories with your pup. Don’t just take my word for it—go explore, snap some photos, and share your experience by tagging me @sweetlifeofcalvin . I’d love to see where your paws take you! - Dog-Friendly Staycation Ideas in Los Angeles For Labor Day Weekend
Hey dog parents! Labor Day weekend is here, which means it’s time to clock out of work mode and clock into play mode. Forget the stress of travel. Los Angeles is already serving up the perfect dog-friendly staycation vibes. From sandy paws at the beach to sniffaris through pet-friendly botanical gardens and shopping strolls with plenty of pup cups, I’ve rounded up the best ways to make this long weekend paws-itively unforgettable. So leash up and follow my lead! Top Dog-friendly Staycation Ideas to do in Los Angeles for Labor Day Weekend 2025 1. Visit a Dog-Friendly Beach A trip to the beach is always at the top of my list. There’s nothing quite like a day spent with wet paws and a sandy nose. We can romp in the waves, sniff around with other dogs, or simply lounge on the beach. Remember, not all dog-friendly beaches allow pups on the sand or in the water. While places like Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach are welcoming, dogs must stay on the boardwalk. Feeling adventurous? Consider paddle boarding or kayaking. Recently, some friends rented a boat through London Boat Rentals . I’m eager for a boat party in Long Beach! Also, check out the new bar at Rosie’s called Monty’s Dog Beach & Bar . It features a mini agility course, lounge chairs, delicious food for humans, and a special dog menu! 📍 Rosie's Dog Beach, Long Beach, CA | Wearing Shed Defender Top Picks: Rosie's Dog Beach (Long Beach, CA) Huntington Dog Beach (Huntington Beach, CA) 2. Go on Dog-Friendly Hiking Trails and Nature Walks Explore the great outdoors with your dog by hitting local hiking trails or nature parks. Select trails that provide plenty of shade and accessible water. For my favorite dog-friendly trails in Los Angeles , I particularly recommend ones where we can dip our paws in water during summer. Don’t forget about dog-friendly gardens like the South Coast Botanical Garden, which allows dogs to explore every fourth Sunday of the month! 📍 Eaton Canyon, Altadena, CA | Wearing Ruffwear Top Picks: Eaton Canyon Falls (Altadena, CA) - closed under further notice South Coast Botanical Garden (Palos Verdes, CA) 3. Spend a Day at a Dog-Friendly Shopping Area It’s a win-win when I get my steps in while my human shops and dines at dog-friendly malls and restaurants. The Grove is always on my list because I can visit almost every store. Many restaurants have outdoor seating, and there’s even Sprinkles, which sells pupcakes and offers free pup cups at La La Land Cafe. Did you know you can even take your dog on a trolley ride? 📍 Original Farmers Market | with @kodathecanineyoda and @lilkiwipie Right next to The Grove is The Original Farmers Market, filled with delicious aromas from various restaurants. They offer a wide range of cuisines, from French and Asian to classic American food. Enjoy it best with a group by sharing dishes, exploring the world with your taste buds. Just be cautious if your dog has allergies or dietary restrictions. Another must-visit is the Dog Bakery for munchkins, brownies, and carrot cake. Top Picks: The Grove (Los Angeles, CA) Original Farmers Market (Los Angeles, CA) 4. Check Out Dog-Friendly Rentals Consider renting a pet-friendly cabin, pool, or yard for a change of scenery and some off-leash fun! Sniffspot is a fantastic platform for renting private dog parks. While most of these spots are backyards, a 45-minute drive outside the city can lead you to a ranch with lake access. Another excellent option is Hipcamp , featuring many dog-friendly farms and campgrounds. I once camped at Angel Crest Creamery, met dozens of goats, ran free on their 70-acre field, and hunted for bunnies. The farm’s guardians were kind, despite my loud barks! Being the best camping buddy 5. Relax at a Dog-Friendly Park Spend a day at a local park where your dog can socialize with other dogs or just people-watch as we love to do. Bring a blanket, water, and some treats to enjoy the fantastic weather. This activity is a great way to meet new furry friends while desensitizing your pup. Top Picks: Los Angeles State Historic Park (Los Angeles, CA) Pan Pacific Park (Los Angeles, CA) Echo Park (Los Angeles, CA) 6. Participate in a Dog-Friendly Event Near You Los Angeles has numerous pet events, and I even have a dedicated blog post just for it! Choose between beach parties, pet friendly markets, pack walks and outdoor cinemas that'll surely make this a memorable summer. Click here to see more dog-friendly events. Tips for a Successful Staycation with Your Dog: 1. Plan Ahead: Research your chosen staycation destination’s pet policies and facilities. Book pet-friendly accommodations and inquire about additional fees or restrictions to avoid last-minute stress. 2. Pack Essentials: Bring plenty of water and snacks for your dog. If spending a day outside, also pack toys and some food to keep your dog entertained. I get grumpy when I’m hungry! 3. Stay Hydrated: Like humans, dogs need hydration, especially during outdoor activities. Bring a portable water bowl and enough clean water to keep your dog healthy. 4. Safety First: Be mindful of your dog’s limits. Avoid extreme heat or strenuous activities that may harm them. Take breaks and seek shaded areas for cooling down on warm days. 5. Have Fun: The most crucial aspect of your staycation is to enjoy quality time with your dog. Plan activities you both enjoy, whether it's exploring pet-friendly trails, visiting a dog-friendly beach, or relaxing together. 📍 Kimpton Hotel Wilshire | with my twin @baconthedoggers There you have it! The ultimate guide to living it up with your pup this Labor Day weekend in Los Angeles. If you follow me on Instagram @sweetlifeofcalvin , you'll also see me on kayaking and paddle-boarding trips. So now, how can I do all these summer activities without overheating? Well, it doesn't help that I'm black because it just gets worse for me, but by being proactive and making sure I stay cool and hydrated on these trips, I can have a lot of fun under the sun without worrying my human. So here are my top 10 must have essential items for dogs like me this summer. Are you ready for an adventures? Follow my lead! Top 10 Must Have Essential Items for Dogs This Summer 1. P ortable Water Bottle and Collapsible Bowls for Dogs Do not allow your humans to leave the house without these, even on short trips to the park or around the neighborhood. It's a practical necessity, to keep us hydrated while we enjoy all our summer activities. While there's plenty of water fountains in the park, please note that these bowls are not regularly cleaned, covered by other dog's saliva and bacteria. 2. Dog shoes for daily walks and hikes Yes, they add a cool factor to my walks, but they also provide comfort on hot pavements, preventing paw injuries. Even the sand on the beach or the rocks on our hikes can get too hot, so I always plan these walks early or late in the afternoon to avoid that. If you find yourself in a situation where you'll have to walk midday, shoes are a savior. I have two kinds of shoes: a hiking boot designed for more rugged terrain and jelly shoes for the beach and around the city. Grip Trex from Ruffwear (old design) Wagwear | Use code CALVIN10 to get 10% off 3. Paw balm for pets If your dog doesn't like wearing shoes, a perfect alternative is a paw balm. This is a summer and winter must-have that can protect your dog's paws in extreme heat and cold. We don't want those cracked paws, so better moisturize. Apply the paw balm to your dog's paws before and after outdoor activities to keep them moisturized and protected. Note: Always check the ingredients and ensure they are organic and all-natural in case your dog starts licking. 4. Cooling mats for pets Our AC will be blasting all summer, but I'm also a nosy dog who loves to hang out on the balcony, so this works well. It keeps me cool while I get all that sunshine. I still have to see how it works at the park, as most of them are supposed to stay cool for a few hours. 5. Cooling vests and shirts for pets While I rarely use mine, I always see my Frenchie friends use these because they are prone to overheating. It is always great gear to have if you find yourself outdoors in the middle of the day. These vests and shirts are designed to keep your dog cool in hot weather, reducing the risk of heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses. 6. Pet Sunscreen It is a perfect alternative to cooling vests and shirts. Although this is highly recommended for hairless dogs, furry dogs are still at risk of losing some fur, and as always, it's better to ensure we are always safe when we're romping around this summer. Sunscreen can protect your dog's skin from harmful UV rays, reducing the risk of sunburn and skin cancer. 7. Pet sun protection hats You've seen me in my Puplid hats in many colors, but did you know they're not only to make me look cool? An engineer and a veterinarian designed these specific trucker hats to help their dog, Buddy, enjoy days at the beach while protecting his eyes. Trucker Hat from Puplid 8. Goggles for pet eye protection from sun and debris Speaking of eye protection, goggles are a must for my adventure-seeking friends. These protect their eyes from harmful UV rays, wind, dirt, and debris. I am still waiting for Rex Specs to arrive, so I'll let you guys know how mine works. 9. Pet life jacket and reflective vests for swimming and floatation When I think of summer, it's hard not to automatically think of all the fun water activities like kayaking and paddle boarding. But I must confess, I cannot swim. But I am not letting that stop me, so I always make sure I wear a vest, even at pools. Some of us don't know how to use our legs, and that's okay. It's also a great way to learn how to swim and gain confidence in the water. Note: Always choose a life vest that fits your dog properly and is approved for their weight and size. Shoutout to my friends @ therealhousepupsofsandiego who gifted me my life vest. Paddle boarding with @avatheminischnauzer and @sup_pups Here's a bonus clip from my last kayaking trip. 10. Dog ice cream and frozen treats —yes, they're a must! Nothing is better than enjoying a cool summer treat like doggy ice cream on a warm day. Note: If your dog has dietary restrictions, try freezing or making frozen treats. Dr. Becker's The Forever Dog book has plenty of healthy pup-sicle recipes you can try making at home. - 7 Essential Tips to Keep Your Dog Calm and Safe During 4th of July Fireworks
Happy 4th of July ❤️🤍💙 As much as I love backyard barbecues, parades, and parties, there's one part of the 4th of July I don't look forward to - the fireworks. The noise doesn't terrify me, but it makes me very angry, just like when a skateboard zooms by or the delivery guy rings the doorbell. If you're not familiar with schnauzers, we constantly bark our heads off. We're loud and can bark all day, which can drive our humans crazy sometimes. Unfortunately, many of my furry friends panic and run away during fireworks. Did you know more dogs run away during the 4th of July than any other time of the year? We can't avoid the loud noises and fireworks, but as a responsible owner, I know you'll do your best to keep us safe and lessen our stress and anxiety. Here are some things my human does and hopefully will keep your dog stay calm and safe during the 4th of July. 7 Essential Tips to Keep Your Dog Calm and Safe During 4th of July Fireworks 1. Prepare a Safe Space Creating a comfortable and secure environment for your dog is vital in helping them feel at ease during the 4th of July festivities. As an owner, you have the power to control the environment and make it less stressful for us. In our case, we close all windows to lessen the noise, keep the TV on a little louder, and set up my bed in the living room with my blanket, toys, and treats to distract me. My human is there to give me pets when I start to growl and toss my squeaky ball to distract me. 2. Provide Identification As I mentioned earlier, many dogs panic and run away during this time, so make sure your dog is wearing a tag with your contact information. If your dog is microchipped, ensure that information is up to date. Consider investing in pet trackers and GPS dog collars. I personally use a Fi collar which allows my human to detect my location and she gets pinged when I get out of my "safe zone" Check out this article for The Best Pet Trackers and GPS Dog Collars for 2025 by PCMag. 3. Avoid Firework Displays Unless it's a pet-friendly silent fireworks, we do not want to be a part of that. The loud sounds and bright lights can be very overwhelming and frightening. In case you need clarification about what a pet-friendly silent fireworks is, it's essentially hundreds of drones flying in the sky in different formations similar to fireworks. A couple years ago, Stella and Chewy's had a special fireworks display for us at the Santa Monica Pier, and it was such an extraordinary experience. Stella and Chewy's Dog-Friendly Fireworks 📍 Santa Monica Pier 4. Keep Them Calm with Dog Calming Aids If your dog is particularly sensitive to loud noises, consider using calming aids such as anxiety vests, noise-protecting earmuffs, and calming chews like CBD-infused treats. These products can help soothe your pet's nerves and reduce anxiety during fireworks or other noisy celebrations. I usually take a CBD treat 30 minutes to an hour before the fireworks start and get busy with my yak chew puffs. It has worked wonders for me. 5. Take Care of Business Early One mistake my human made when I was a puppy was taking me out for my usual night walk on the 4th of July. To her defense, it was her first year celebrating the 4th in LA, and she didn't know there would be so many illegal fireworks. I was minding my business when a firework that sounded and felt like a bomb exploded. I was so terrified that I had diarrhea for two days. So, get your steps in and business done early so you can spend a more relaxing night at home cuddling with your human, preferably chewing on a treat. 6. Exercise Before the Celebrations In addition to taking care of business early, I usually go on a hike or spend a couple of hours at the beach to burn off extra energy. When I'm tired, I tend to be more calm and less affected by noises. I also got some new snuffle mats this year, which is a great way to stimulate our minds. 📍 Rosie's Dog Beach, Long Beach CA 7. Consult Your Vet If you know your dog struggles with fear or anxiety during fireworks, speak to your vet ahead of time. The tips I mentioned above work for me, but I'm not a dogtor who can give you professional advice or prescribe suitable calming aids and medication for your dog. You can enjoy the holiday with peace of mind by taking proactive steps to ensure your dog's safety and well-being during the 4th of July celebrations. Remember, we rely on you to keep us safe and secure throughout the festivities. With some preparation and care, you can make the holiday enjoyable for you and your dog. Here's to a happy, safe, and stress-free 4th of July for you and your best friend! Enjoy, be safe and celebrate with treats! Want more paw-fessional tips? Make sure you follow @sweetlifeofcalvin . - Dog-Friendly Farmers Markets and Flea Markets in Los Angeles
Photo by Mary Haber Pets @mary_haber_pets Looking for a way to enjoy the weekend while staying local and supporting small businesses? I've sniffed out the best dog-friendly farmers markets and flea markets in Los Angeles where you can grab fresh produce, shop local vendors and bring your pup along for one of the best dog-friendly outdoor experiences and sniffaris in the city. Whether you're looking to stock up on farm-fresh veggies or hunt for vintage treasures, these open-air markets in Los Angeles offer something for everyone and most importantly, allow our cute faces to roam and soak up all the love. If your pup is a pro like me, they'll even get lots of head scratches from strangers. So, leash up and follow my lead! Dog-Friendly Farmers Markets in Los Angeles The Original Farmers Market 📍 6333 W 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90036 Monday - Friday : 9 AM - 9 PM Saturday : 10 AM - 9 PM Sunday : 10 AM - 7 PM An LA landmark since 1934, The Original Farmers Market features over 100 vendors, restaurants, and specialty shops. Dogs are welcome in outdoor dining areas and walkways and the best part? They even have a Dog Bakery ! I never leave without getting my munchkins and carrot cake treats. LA River Farmers' Market 📍 1245 N Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90012 Every Thursday : 3 - 7:30 PM This one is a gray area and not only because some colors appear gray-ish to me. Because this is a smaller market located at the entrance of the Los Angeles State Historic Park, pups like us are allowed as we enter and exit the park. It offers farm-fresh produce, artisanal snacks, plants and handmade products. In the summer, I love saying hi to produce vendors for the free berries while the human gets a pistachio croissant from Le Saint Honoré or a sea salt choc chip cookie from Mud Cookies before we proceed to sit and people-watch in the park. The Ultimate Guide to Dog-Friendly Flea Markets in Los Angeles Melrose Trading Post 📍 7850 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046 Every Sunday : 10 AM - 6 PM Held every Sunday at Fairfax High School, this trendy market is a hotspot for vintage fashion, handmade goods, and delicious food trucks. I always enjoy sniffing everything but please be extra careful as many breakable and delicate items are displayed on the floor. We come here to hang out, enjoy good food, and listen to live music, which makes for a perfect chill brunch idea on a Sunday. Silverlake Flea 📍 1500 Griffith Park Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026 Friday : 10 AM - 3:30 PM Saturday : 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM Sunday : 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM Located in the hip Sunset area, this market is excellent for finding vinyl, antiques, and vintage clothing. If shopping here isn't enough cardio, head over to Echo Park just a couple of blocks away and get in more steps as you make the loop around the park while your pup "hunts" for ducks. Los Feliz Flea 📍 Marshall High School, 3939 Tracy St, Los Angeles, CA 90027 Saturday : 11 AM - 5 PM Hosted by VintageLand LA, this Saturday market is more than just a shopping destination - it's an entertainment hub. It also features pickleball courts, tattoo shops, an indoor skate park, a VR escape room, and a rooftop pet area. Pasadena City College Flea Market 📍 1570 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91106 Sunday : 8 AM - 3 PM (first Sunday of every month) Held monthly, this large-scale flea market spans multiple levels and is known for rare finds and collectibles. Indulge in tamales, tacos, and the cuteness of the adoptable pups from Pasadena Humane who are always in attendance. Santa Monica Airport Antique Market 📍 3223 Donald Douglas Loop S, Santa Monica, CA 90405 This market is ideal for serious antique collectors and design enthusiasts. From fashion finds to one-of-a-kind pieces, statement jewelry, and even textiles, there's always something for everyone here. Tips for Bringing Your Dog to a Farmers or Flea Market Tip 1 : Know your pup Markets can get loud and crowded. If your dog gets overwhelmed easily, try to go early before the rush. You can also start by taking 5-10 minutes to stand and observe from the side, allowing your pup to calm down instead of directly weaving through the crowd. Tip 2 : Bring Water Although these places have food vendors, it's always best to bring your own water and a portable water bowl especially in the summer. Tip 3 : Keep an eye on your pup Some vendors sell foods that are toxic to dogs, so be sure to avoid any sneaky snacking. While I will never grab a sample or food products on the table, the ground is always free for all and trust me, there are plenty of crumbs there. One time, a kid dropped her ice cream and I almost inhaled it. Tip 4 : Clean after your pup Always pick up after your dog and make sure it doesn't mark any of the vendor booths. Let's make sure we don't leave any surprises for other visitors, so we can continue to explore these places. Before I head out to my sniffaris, I always go on a 15-minute walk so I can take care of business and not expose myself to taking a big dump in the middle of a big crowd. Tip 5 : Use a 6-foot leash Most markets require non-retractable leashes for safety. It really makes it easier to manage your pup when it tries to pull off a snack heist or gets agitated with the way the other pup made eye contact. Whether it's a market, a pet-friendly dining spot, or any other pet-friendly location, it's always best to keep your pup on a short leash. Tip 6 : Reward good behavior Bring some training treats to reward good behavior. It's a win-win outing when you and your pup both had a great time, so make sure your pup knows they did a great job. I always get a high-pitched good boy with a head scratch when I don't growl at big dogs when I'm outside. One thing to note: if your pup loves treats as much as I do, make sure to reward them away from the crowd and other pups so they can enjoy the reward in peace. Tip 7 : Check the weather Final tip, always check the weather before you go and make sure your pup is dressed appropriately. In the summer, the hot pavement can hurt our paws, so make sure you apply some paw wax or even better, make us wear a stylish pair of boots. You can also get a cooling bandana to ensure your pup still looks stylish while feeling fresh. 📍 The Original Farmers' Market with @kodathecanineyoda and @lilkiwipie Shopping small and supporting local businesses is even better when your pup can join in the fun. Whether you're looking for fresh produce, handmade jewelry or a vintage shirt to match your pup's cool style, LA's markets are filled with possibilities. - Kick-off Summer With These Fun LA Dog Events in June
@sweetlifeofcalvin We all know how much I love to party and how LA’s pet party scene is on a different level, so I always get excited when summer hits because the biggest events happen right around this time of the year. Oftentimes, I spend every weekend plowing through treat bars, splashing in the water, meeting hundreds if not thousands of furry friends and humans and posing for Insta-worthy photos. If you’re a pup living in LA, it’s not a question of what you will do this summer but more of which activity suits you because, honestly, this month’s lineup alone is enough to keep you happy and tired for a few days. I’m particularly excited about Pawlympics 2024 by Pawsitive Mgmt at the LA Coliseum. Yes, you read that right. Pups partying in the LA Coliseum. Not only will this go down in history as the very first dog event at the iconic LA Coliseum, but this will undoubtedly be the biggest event this summer. If you haven’t been or heard of Pawsitive Mgmt’s events, then you’re either living under a rock or don’t have your priorities as a pet parent in check. Trust me when I say this, they throw the best parties! Pawlympics 2024 by Pawsitive Mgmt at LA Coliseum These events aren’t dog-friendly; these events are designed for us pups, and the humans are just here to tag along with the fun. If you’re not convinced, check out this video from last year’s summer event. Click here to get your ticket. If your pup needs more time to prepare for such a big event, start with these events and see how they react. This weekend, join DTLA’s Dog Days in Pershing Square and meet all the local businesses here in Downtown. DTLA Dogs Days in Pershing Square Pawbrey, a famous TikTok pup, is throwing a rooftop paw-ty called LA Dog Party at Figueroa and 8th. Watch out for other famous TikTok dogs in attendance, too! LA Dog Party If your dog loves to swim and or do agility, participate at Southpark Doggieland’s Pawlympics III . This is their 3rd year, and let me tell you, last year, I was 2.5 seconds shy of having a podium finish on their agility course, so I’ll be redeeming myself this year. South Park Doggieland's Palympics III Outdoor cinemas are always an anticipated summer activity, and this time, they are hosted by one of my favorite local stores - Healthy Spot. Yes, that black schnauzer on their newsletters and website is no other than me so you know I'll be there for Movie Night . If you know me, I’ll be hovering over that treat bar the entire time, even after the movie has started. Healthy Spot Movie Night at Ivy Station We’re just getting started here. There are so many more fun activities lined up this summer, but I don’t want to overwhelm you, so check back to get the most updated list, and make sure you sign-up to my newsletter to get the latest scoop on fun events happening in LA this summer!
