Best Dog-Friendly Parks & Gardens in Los Angeles to Visit this Spring
Step into a Victorian-inspired oasis at Exposition Park Rose Garden, an iconic LA landmark known for its stunning floral displays. As spring arrives, this garden bursts into vibrant colors, making it a must-visit for both pups and their humans. Leashed dogs are welcome to explore the manicured walkways, but fair warning—this place is squirrel central. If your pup has a habit of chasing them, keep a short leash handy!
Location: 701 State Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90037
Why Visit?
Gorgeous rose-lined paths for a peaceful walk
Perfect for photoshoots (hello, Instagram-worthy moments!)
Plenty of benches to sit and soak in the scenery
If your pup is full of zoomies, Runyon Canyon is the ultimate hiking spot! Known for its off-leash areas, sweeping city views, and spring wildflowers, this park is a favorite among LA dog owners. With multiple trail options, you can choose between a leisurely walk or a steep climb to tire out your energetic pup.
Why Visit?
Off-leash freedom for well-behaved pups
Breathtaking views of LA’s skyline
A great way to burn off energy before heading home

Tucked away on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, South Coast Botanic Garden is a hidden gem for pet parents who love a calm, nature-filled escape. The best part? They have dedicated "Dog Walking Hours", so you and your pup can explore the beautiful gardens together.
Why Visit?
Seasonal blooms and plenty of open space
Dog-friendly events (check their website for special activities!)
A peaceful retreat away from the city
Note: Entry requires a ticket and outside of “Dog Walking Hours,” only service animals are allowed. Check the schedule here before planning your visit.
If you live or work downtown, Grand Park is a great place for a quick walk, lunch break, or casual hangout with your pup. With shaded pathways, grassy areas, and colorful flower beds, this park is an urban retreat in the heart of LA. Plus, there are food trucks every Tuesday–Thursday (11 a.m.–2 p.m.), so you can grab a bite while your pup enjoys the sunshine. Click here to see their food truck lineup.
Location: 200 N Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012
Why Visit?
Pet-friendly green space in the middle of the city
A great place for socializing with other pups
Food trucks! (Perfect for a snack break)
Heads up: If your dog is easily distracted by cats, avoid the areas near the buildings. Some feline friends like to make surprise appearances and they are not very friendly in my experience.
Hidden within the UCLA campus, Mathias Botanical Garden is a peaceful retreat filled with winding trails, shady trees, and a small creek with the relaxing sound of gushing water, home to turtles and small fish. This lesser-known gem offers a quiet escape for dog parents looking to unwind with their pups while surrounded by lush greenery. Though the garden itself is small, it provides a serene atmosphere perfect for a short, relaxing walk.
Why Visit?
Shady trails and benches for relaxation
A small creek with a relaxing gushing of water sound, home to turtles and small fish
A peaceful alternative to busier parks
Pro Tip: While the garden is compact, the UCLA campus is filled with beautiful green spaces to explore. After visiting Mathias Botanical Garden, take a leisurely stroll around the campus—you’ll find open lawns, scenic pathways, and plenty of new smells for your pup to enjoy!
Los Angeles has no shortage of dog-friendly parks and gardens, each offering a unique way to enjoy spring with your pup—from hiking adventures to relaxing strolls. So lace up your walking shoes, grab your poop bags, and get ready to explore the floral wonders of LA.
